Huawei MateBook E: Surface Pro 8 competitor presented with a 2.5K OLED display and Intel Tiger Lake processors

Huawei has unveiled the MateBook E, a 7.99 mm thick tablet that runs Windows 11. Undoubtedly, the MateBook E will be a Surface Pro 8 competitor, which Microsoft announced in September. The MateBook E also weighs 709 g and supports a detachable keyboard. Arguably, the star of the show is the tablet's display, a 12.6-inch OLED panel that operates at up to 400 nits in a 2,560 x 1,600-pixel native resolution. Accordingly, the display has a 16:10 aspect ratio.

Additionally, Huawei has equipped the MateBook E with LPDDR4X RAM, a PCIe SSD, and a 42 Wh battery that can be recharged at 65 W. Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6 are also onboard, as is active stylus support. The MateBook E has a single Thunderbolt 4 port, too.

Currently, Huawei has only announced the MateBook E in China, where it starts at CNY 5,999 (~US$938). The entry-level configuration comes with a Core i5-1130G7 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD. By contrast, the company offers a model with the same processor but 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD for CNY 6,999 (~US$1,095). Alternatively, there is a third model with a Core i7-1160G7, 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD for CNY 7,999 (~US$1,251).

Hence, the MateBook E will be an expensive device if Huawei releases it globally. Incidentally, the company has also announced the Watch GT Runner today, again in China. The MateBook E will be available in two colours, translated as Nebula Ash and Interstellar Blue.
